Almudena Escobar López is an independent scholar, curator, and archivist from Galicia, and is an Assistant Professor at the School of Image Arts of the Toronto Metropolitan University. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on documentary and artists’ moving image practices while also addressing broader questions regarding visual historiography and alternative information ecologies. She holds a PhD in Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Rochester. As a guest curator, Almudena has curated and co-curated film and video series presented at TIFF, Batalha Centro de Cinema, Arsenal, Lincoln Center, Museum of Modern Art, Anthology Film Archives, and the Cineteca Nacional de México, among others. She was program advisor at the Art of the Real at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and co-curated the 2022 Flaherty Seminar with Sky Hopinka, “Continents of Drifting Clouds.” With Faraz Faraz Anoushahpour, Scott Miller Berry and Ryan Ferko she is part of the 2025 programming committee of Diffusion in Tkaronto.
