EXPANDED CINEMA, Luis Macias
Based on the concept of Expanded Cinema or Performative Cinema, the objective of this workshop is to provide different theories and techniques for image intervention through projections with or without 16mm and Super 8 film.
We will focus on image manipulation, acquiring a deeper understanding not only of film but also of projection devices as instruments for cinematic improvisation and action, based on light and its variations/variables, which are embodied in the fluctuation of light/darkness and sound/silence. In addition to cinematographic film with its various sources and properties, or the absence thereof, we will explore various lighting elements such as strobe lights, flashlights, and other alternative light/dark sources in an exercise returning to primitive cinema and shadow plays.
The invention, creation, and appropriation of sound and visual loops, intervened with different artisanal tools, will be the basis for improvisation in film projection or action for the creation of a final individual and/or collective work.
