NATURAL DEVELOPMENT, Katherine Bauer
Learn how to develop 16mm film using only plants, water, and ashes! Fix your images with only salt! Don't buy anything, no industrial or toxic materials, use what you find in your garden. Measure the ingredients, time, and temperature with your household containers, your hands, and your eyes. Be independent with your film project.
In this plant development workshop, participants will learn how to make a plant developer (and salt fixer) to develop 16mm black and white film (or any silver emulsion photographic film or paper).
We will learn how to expose film for plant development, how to choose plants, when and how to harvest them, and how to prepare the tea/extraction to achieve the desired results, as well as how to accept the random nature and the destandardization of development. Plant developers don't just try to imitate their industrial counterparts; they are wild versions of themselves.
